Fossil Kauri Wood

Some materials tell a story, and then there's fossil kauri, which tells the story of the world. The Agathis australis trees that gave rise to this wood lived in New Zealand tens of thousands of years ago, the oldest specimens dating back over 50,000 years before Christ. Fallen into New Zealand's peat bogs, they were preserved in perfect anaerobic conditions, buried under meters of earth across geological ages, while all around them the history of humanity was written, erased, and written again. The wood you hold today was already old when humans were painting the caves of Lascaux.

Extracted with great care from the peat bogs of Northland, at the northern tip of New Zealand, fossil kauri is one of the rarest and most precious materials that exist, and one of the truly sustainable ones: no tree is felled, no forest touched. Nature did all the work millennia ago; we simply recover what the earth has kept safe. Its color ranges from amber honey to warm brown, with soft grain and a naturally tight surface, free of open pores, which makes it exceptionally pleasant to the touch and perfectly suited to laser engraving: the mark comes out sharp, precise, as permanent as the story this wood carries with it.
