The Sator Square is one of antiquity's most enigmatic symbols: a perfect palindrome that reads the same in all four directions — horizontally, vertically, left to right and right to left. Its five Latin words (Sator, Arepo, Tenet, Opera, Rotas) form a grid that closes in on itself like a code with no beginning and no end. Found engraved at Pompeii, Herculaneum and numerous Roman sites, its exact meaning is still debated today: a protection amulet, a hidden Christian symbol, a magic formula. What is certain is that for two thousand years, someone always wanted to carry it.
For this pendant I chose Santos Rosewood, a wood with a strong personality: warm tones ranging from honey to deep amber, crossed by dense grain that gives it depth and character. Hand-shaped into a circular form and laser-engraved, every letter of the square is defined with surgical precision. The surface is treated with natural vegetable oil, which enhances the wood's colour without masking it. At 34 x 34 mm, it sits well on the chest without feeling heavy.
The hardware follows the Dogstar philosophy: instead of a standard bail, a guitar-string ball-end — the laboratory's signature, reinterpreting components from the world of lutherie as design elements. The cord is an adjustable paracord lace, durable and contemporary. Every pendant is delivered in the Dogstar Wood Lab packaging, made from FSC-certified cardboard.
