In Norse mythology, Yggdrasill is the cosmic ash tree that embraces the nine worlds: its roots reach into the depths, its branches touch the skies, its trunk is the axis around which existence turns. It is not just a symbol — it is the Vikings' map of the universe, the place where Odin sacrificed himself to obtain the knowledge of the runes. For this pendant I chose ash wood, the same timber as the primordial tree: a choice that tells the story of the symbol before the engraving even begins.
Hand-shaped into a dodecagon — twelve sides evoking cycles and geometric perfection — and laser-engraved with a dense, detail-rich design: tangled roots, opening branches and intertwining leaves in a pattern that carries centuries of tradition. Ash wood has a linear, luminous grain, pale and almost lunar, which contrasts with the depth of the engraving and brings every detail of the design to life. The surface is treated with natural vegetable oil, which nourishes the wood and keeps it alive to the touch. At 34 x 34 mm it is light and perfect for everyday wear.
The hardware follows the Dogstar philosophy: instead of a standard bail, a guitar-string ball-end — the laboratory's signature, reinterpreting components from the world of lutherie as design elements. The cord is an adjustable paracord lace, durable and contemporary. Every pendant is delivered in the Dogstar Wood Lab packaging, made from FSC-certified cardboard.
